The 2013 Fulton Tourism theme is

"Lincoln Highway Centennial 1913-2012:  Travel & Tribute." 

Fulton is located along the historic Lincoln Highway.  The national scenic byway comes into Fulton via US Route 30 and 15th Avenue.  The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental highway spanning from Times Square in New York City to San Francisco, CA.  The highway is over 3,100 miles and travels through 14 states.  An informational gazebo, featuring interpretive text and historical photos, can be found at the corner of 10th Avenue and 3rd Street.  An interpretive mural featuring the former Fulton-Lyons Bridge, connecting Illinois to Iowa along the Lincoln Highway, is located at the corner of 10th Avenue and 4th Street. 

The theme provides an excellent opportunity to develop programs and activities for Fulton's attractions and annual events.  Several groups have already begun to tie their 2013 programming to the Lincoln Highway theme.  The City Tourism Committee encourages all organizations and event organizers to incorporate the theme in their annual planning.

            Fulton celebrates its 175^th birthday in 2010 and the Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the City of Fulton are planning special events for the year.  In 1835, John Baker journeyed north from New Orleans and settled at the narrows of the Mississippi establishing Fulton.  By 1836, Baker had constructed a log cabin with 3 tiny rooms, the only stop along the river between Albany and Savanna.
