May 19, 2012: Volunteer Miller Open House PDF Print E-mail

Volunteer Miller
Open House

Date:  Saturday, May 19, 2012

Time:  10:00 a.m. to Noon

Location:  de Immigrant Windmill, corner of 1st Street & 10th Avenue

Cost:  Free

Details:  The purpose of the open house is to offer volunteer information to individuals interested in becoming a Volunteer Miller.   Volunteer Millers will be on hand to discuss their duties and answer questions.

Currently, there are two dozen Volunteer Millers, including both men and women of all ages.  While all Volunteer Millers are required to go through some training, the level of training depends on the individual.  Some Volunteer Millers choose to become certified, while others do not.  The Volunteer Millers are in charge of maintaining and operating the windmill May through October.  The millers meet monthly, March through November, to discuss mill operations.

The amount of time a volunteer wants to work at the windmill is up to the individual.   A volunteer shift is typically three to four hours long.   Some Volunteer Millers work one to two shifts a month, while others work two to three shifts a week.  Whatever time a volunteer can give is appreciated.

If you or someone you know is looking for a fun, educational, and interactive opportunity, volunteering at the windmill may be for you.  It is a great way to meet new and interesting people and give back to the community.  Be sure to stop by anytime between 10am and Noon during the open house on May 19 to learn more about volunteering.   For further questions, contact Heather Bennett at 815-589-2616 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
