Fulton Chamber of Commerce
Minutes from October 9, 2007

Attendance:  Chuck Dykstra, Patti Housenga, Shirl Wierenga-Huber, Linda Hollis, Lynne Loerop and Heather Bennett.

Absent:  Paula Rogis, Sue Mannix, Bill Wilkin, and Steve Owen.

The September Chamber Board Meeting was cancelled due to lack of quorum. 

Minutes:  A motion was made by Wierenga-Huber and seconded by Hollis to approve the minutes from August 14, 2007.  Motion carried.     

Treasurer's Report:  Hollis reviewed report noting expenses and income for the month of August: $1,252.95 revenue and $772.11 expenses, leaving a balance of $8,611.72.  Hollis reviewed report noting expenses and income for the month of September:  $2,968.41 revenue and $998.89 expenses, leaving a balance of $10,581.24.  A motion was made by Loerop and seconded by Wierenga-Huber to accept the August and September Treasurer's Report.  Motion carried.  Bennett provided a year to date budget report.  The chamber fiscal year ends August 31. According to the by-laws an audit must be performed by a competent person approved by the board.  A motion was made by Loerop and seconded by Hollis to ask Garry Medema to audit the books.  Motion carried.    

Executive:    Bennett read a resignation letter from Sue Mannix.  Hollis suggested Bill Stoermer would be a good candidate to fill the board vacancy.  A motion was made by Hollis and seconded by Loerop to ask Bill Stoermer to fill out the term vacated by Sue Mannix.  Motion carried.  Bennett provided an executive director meeting report for 8/8/07 - 10/4/07.  The Annual Planning Session will be scheduled for Thursday, November 8 from 11:30am to 1pm at the Fulton Masonic Lodge.  A motion was made by Dykstra and seconded by Loerop to ask Bonnie Dyson to facilitate the session.  Motion carried. 

Tourism & Promotions:    Copies of the August/September advertising were provided.  Wierenga-Huber reported the Tourism Committee discussed the operation, management and support of all city owned museums and a theme for the Christmas Walk.   Bennett provided a listing of Fall Festival activities being planned and a sign-up sheet for volunteers.  The Fulton Christmas Walk is scheduled for Friday, December 7, from 5pm to 7pm in the downtown district.   

Government Affairs:     Bennett and several other community members are participating in a community advisory group for the US Route 30 expansion.  The advisory group is organized by the Illinois Department of Transportation. 

Member Relations:  Bennett and Rogis will be working to put all of the spotlights in binders to be delivered to 10-15 businesses with waiting areas.  The RK Dixon Workshop, Document Imaging, was cancelled due to lack of participation.  Bennett emailed the membership asking for suggestions for other workshop ideas.  The only suggestion given was for a QuickBooks workshop.  The chamber will work on scheduling a workshop after the planning session in case additional ideas come forward.    A ground breaking was held for Manny's Too on September 4, 2007.  Bennett provided an updated list on the membership drive. 

Downtown:  Dykstra reported the Fulton Retail Development Group continues to look for another property to purchase.  Dykstra mentioned the following developments are occurring in downtown Fulton:  Manny's Too expansion, future opening of the Golden Wok Chinese Restaurant, the sale of Paddlewheel Pizza to Larry Leonard, and the relocation of Dream Rental/Kreative Events to 201 10th Avenue.  Dykstra also reported the Fulton Retail Development Group has purchased small plaques to be placed on the outside of downtown businesses who have worked to historically preserve their façade. 

Old/New Business:    Bennett attended the Kramer Retirement Party and gave them a framed photo of the windmill on behalf of the chamber.    

Adjourn:   A motion was made by Hollis and seconded by Loerop to adjourn meeting at 12:50pm.  Motion carried.
