Its time for another beekeeping session at the Andresen Nature Center, Fulton, Illinois, on Sunday, July 7, at 1:00 PM.

Topics for this session will include:
1) Summer Colony Inspections: What a Healthy Colony Buildup Will Look Like
2) Honey Extraction / Harvesting: How and How Much?
3) Yes, Even More Mite Control Discussions & Strategies
4) Q & A Session
5) Live Inspection of 2 colonies at the Center, including mite alcohol washes

As before, beekeepers with some - or even extensive - experience are welcome to attend. However, these series of meetings are tailored towards newer beekeepers, those who may be struggling to keep their colonies alive year round, along with those interested in starting their own apiaries.
Led by Mike Kramer, one of our local beekeepers and the consultant for the Nature Center’s observation beehive, the events are always entertaining as well as educational.
For those wanting to stick around after the primary session, we will be doing live hive inspections on the two standard Langstrom hives at the Center, including alcohol washes to check for Varroa mites. We do have a limited number of bee suits, but recommend that you bring your own PPE if interested in participating in the inspections.
This is a free event.
The Andresen Nature Center is located at 409 North 4th Street in Fulton, adjacent to Heritage Canyon. For more information, send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or
