The annual "Illuminated 5K Run/Walk" in Fulton, has gotten to be a very special, "wouldn't miss this one" event. This is such a unique run/walk event for Fulton for several reasons: because it occurs after dark, AND along the top of the levee, AND follows along the riverfront in Fulton, AND the levee is lined with luminaries...it makes for a beautiful backdrop to this special event.

In years past, the "Annual Illuminated 5K Run/Walk" has always been held on Friday evening and would kick off the Fulton Christmas Walk held downtown Fulton.  This year will be a little different.  The run/walk will still be held on Friday night, December 6th, 2019, but this year, the Christmas Walk has been moved to Saturday, December 7th, for several reasons, the most prevalent one being for the safety of the run/walk participants.

The Christmas Walk  itself has always drawn a pretty large crowd of people, most are looking for a parking spot, and maneuvering along the streets in that search.  The drivers aren't expecting or anticipating having a pedestrian, runner or walker in their path so there has been quite a few "close calls" over the years.   Because the race begins on the street downtown Fulton, there has always been a concern for the amount of traffic, the runners and the compromised visability of nighttime for the drivers.  Jean Roeder is the race organizer. Once she has all the event details arranged, registrations will be available at www.Getmeregistered.com, sometime closer to the event.

Saturday's fun will start off again this year with "Breakfast with Santa" held at the Fulton Fire Station first thing in the morning.  It is a benefit for the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department and is held from 7 - 10AM.  Fulton is all a-buzz!

Next, Wierenga's Heritage Canyon with the help of the Early American Crafters comes to life at Noon until 7:00 PM for "Christmas in the Canyon".  Carolers, crafts and activiites for all ages!  They have the fireplaces in the hearths of the buildings all stoked up and it makes for a perfect place to warm up, listen to the stories of life in the 1800's and enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.

Finally, downtown Fulton, the annual Christmas walk with a theme of "Old-Fashioned Hometown Christmas" will begin at 5:00 and go until 7:30 PM.  It will start with the official "Welcome to Fulton" presentation by the Mayor of Fulton, Mike Ottens, followed the "Lighting of the Tree".

This is just a tiny sample of all the activities that will be going on in Fulton the annual Christmas holiday "kick-off" on December 6 and 7, 2019.  The (Boy) Scouts will most likely be serving up their Soup Supper, too.  FREE cookies and treats will be offered at downtown businesses, and community organizations, carolers, "live" nativity, hot cocoa, coffee and cider, decorations, and LOTS of lights!

This is just a start of what you can expect  to find in Fulton the first Friday and Saturday in December this year.  Come check it out for yourself and prepare to get "in the mood" for Christmas and the holidays!
